On March 9-10-11 2018, people interested in service and customer experience design will meet simultaneously all over the world.

In a spirit of experimentation, innovation, co-operation and friendly competition, teams have less than 48 hours to develop and prototype completely new services inspired by a shared theme. At the end of the weekend, their collection of brand new services will be published to the world.

A great analogy is to imagine a Jam session in music. People get together, bringing their instruments, skills, and an open mind. Someone takes the lead and decides on a beat or melody (a theme), and everyone start to Jam around it. No one over analyses it, there is no discussing it to death, you Jam. Ideas are bounced off other people, new ideas enrich the sound and together build something which none of them could have built alone. During the process, people learn new ideas, discover more about how they work, sharpen their skills, and let’s not forget, they all have a great time. And who knows what can happen, it could be that one or two ideas there make it to the next album. Or perhaps the ‘team’ Jammed so well, you all decide to form a band…

The Global Service Jam works in the same way. But it’s not with music, but with ideas. You may find yourself working with people you have never met, bouncing ideas off one another and building on what bounces back. Although time is tight, the purpose is not to just talk – teams are meant to propose a concrete design, prototype and plan of action which you or somebody else might want to make real. It’s up to you and what your team decides, but wouldn’t it be great if something real came out of this? Something you and your team could further develop? So it’s important to think about feasibility, resources, steps to take, etc. That’s the challenge of the Jam.




The theme?

The theme is carefully picked by the Jam representatives and sent to eachof the organizers to be revealed to the public the Friday of the event (local time).

Again the theme was fairly abstract, allowing participants a wide range of interpretation, adapting to their interests. An example was the theme for the Global Service Jam 2014: “Unfolded Cube”. These themes tend to be so general, not to be taken literary, but to allow participants to interpret them in their own way. The idea was to come up with many types of services that included, but were not limited to an unfolded cube. The Jammers imagined super different things when they first saw the theme. Ideas ranged from Waste bins, City Skylines to a flower pot or a time machine!

English is the language used throughout the weekend and works easily among such a international crowd of jammers
